Valentine's Day presents the ideal opportunity to reminisce about Ron + Michael’s Iconic Gatsby Inspired Plaza Hotel Wedding. At Jove Meyer Events, we revel in the celebration of love! Inclusivity is at the heart of Jove Meyer Events, and so it was especially exciting to plan the first LGBTQ+ Jewish wedding at this absolutely iconic venue. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating LOVE in all of it’s forms! Michael and Ron, our grooms, hired Jove Meyer Events to capture the opulence and allure of the Gilded Age in their Gatsby-inspired wedding at the Plaza. Ensuring the design showcased the Plaza's beauty while infusing modern fresh elements that reflected our groom’s unique modern love story.

The Venue

The Plaza Hotel, a historic landmark nestled at the southern edge of Central Park in New York City, stands as an epitome of luxury and elegance. With its iconic Beaux-Arts architecture and lavish interiors, the Plaza has been a symbol of sophistication since its opening in 1907. Its grandiose interiors scream "look at me!" Renowned for its impeccable service and opulent amenities, it spoke to Ron + Michael’s love of Downton Abbey + and all things extra fabulous! Its grand ballrooms, adorned with crystal chandeliers and intricate detailing, have witnessed illustrious events and extravagant celebrations making it the perfect setting for this couple’s winter wedding. From its iconic Palm Court, to its gorgeous suites offering breathtaking views of the city skyline, the Plaza Hotel continues to captivate guests with its timeless charm and unparalleled hospitality, embodying the essence of New York's cosmopolitan allure. We aimed to create an event for this couple the likes of which the Plaza has never seen before!

The Details

Every paper detail was meticulously adorned with intricate Art Deco motifs, evoking the lavishness of the Jazz Age. Collaborating with Emily Baird Designs, our team crafted an invitation suite and day-of paper filled with geometric patterns, contemporary typography, clean lines, and glistening embellishments. The playful blend of light pink, navy, and dark green injected a modern twist into the Gatsby-inspired theme. Illustrations showcasing the iconic Plaza Hotel on the invitations heightened anticipation for an unforgettable New York City celebration. Following suit, menus were accented with a pink wax seal. The escort display was designed to evoke an old-fashioned room key display.

The Ceremony

The design of the ceremony focused on allowing the grandeur of the Plaza to shine through while integrating contemporary touches. A transparent acrylic chuppah adorned with white flowers, and ghost chairs introduced modern elements, seamlessly blending with the venue's gilded-age vibe. The ambiance was elevated with strategically placed candles, casting a romantic glow and enhancing the overall glamour of the space.

The Reception

The tablescapes showcased soft hues echoing the delicate pink tones from the invitations, creating a cheerful setting. The floral arrangements were a vibrant mix of pinks, oranges, reds and a touch of blues adding a pop of freshness to the otherwise opulent setting. The classic crystal candelabras were paired with an unexpected pink candle contributing to the playful charm of the table decor. The menus infused that Gatsby flair the couple loves. We reimagined the Plaza’s chandeliers with tube lights, a Jove Meyer Events’ favorite, to add a surprise element.

The Party

Our groom, Ron, the mastermind behind the Illumination NYC light festival, collaborated with creative director Robert Montenegro to craft a bespoke installation. This mesmerizing creation transformed colors dynamically throughout the night, encircling the ballroom's chandelier and captivating guests with its ever-changing allure. The music kept guests dancing all night log with mashups of Britney–NSYNC–Backstreet Boys!
