Styles Familia

We had the absolute joy of welcoming Styles Familia into the Weddings-ish with Jove studio this week, and from the moment they walked in, the energy was electric. Their wedding had already taken over the internet — the fashion, the wrapped bus, the cathedral, the 12-hour journey across New York City — but hearing the story directly from them brought a depth and heart that no viral clip could ever capture.

We were immediately pulled into their origin story. They met at Home Depot, of all places — she was looking for blinds, he was ready to clock out, and somehow a simple question turned into a two-hour conversation about life, healing, humor, and timing. The way Styles Familia tells it had us laughing, gasping, and rooting for them from that very first moment.

Their dating years were filled with the kind of honesty most couples take a decade to reach. He tried too hard. She protected her peace. There were late arrivals, missed cues, and moments of self-reflection that made their bond stronger. By the time they shared their proposal story — a surprise at Hudson Yards during Covid, complete with a vintage Rolls-Royce and a last-minute location pivot — we were hanging onto every word.

Planning their wedding became a defining chapter. They told us they made a conscious decision to stop centering everyone else’s expectations and instead design a day around their favorite weekly ritual: date night. That shift unlocked the vision for what would become their legendary 12-hour wedding — a one-of-a-kind adventure through the city they love.

We followed them through every iconic stop: Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, a first dance on Fifth Avenue, photos at City Hall, Hudson Yards group portraits, an AMC Times Square theater reveal, and a full-blown celebration at One World Trade. Each moment was chosen with intention and rooted in meaning. Hearing them lay out the “why” behind every choice reminded us how deeply personal a wedding can be when you strip away everyone else’s expectations.

And then, the fashion. The internet couldn’t stop talking about it, and neither could we. Styles Familia walked us through every bold, beautiful detail — the neon green dresses, the pink shorts tuxedos, the vertical fan-style crown, and of course, the 20-foot ponytail that cascaded behind the bride as she walked down the cathedral aisle. Their style wasn’t about spectacle. It was about authenticity, culture, and joy.

Their decision to sell tickets to their wedding — the detail that stirred up the online world — came from a place far more thoughtful than people realized. With only 60 seats available on the wrapped double-decker bus that defined their day, they didn’t want to choose who made the cut. They wanted their community to choose themselves. And what no one knew until this conversation was that they always intended to refund every guest and redirect the money to a foundation supporting couples going through IVF.

Hearing them speak openly about fertility, pregnancy loss, and the emotional reveal they shared with their guests at the AMC theater was one of the most powerful moments we’ve had on this podcast. Their vulnerability reminded us how much life exists beneath the highlight reel of a wedding day.

The celebration at One World Trade carried all the love and electricity that Styles Familia brings into every space — speeches flowing freely, dancing until nearly 2 a.m., and a room full of people who trusted the process from the first bus pickup to the final song.

We left this conversation in awe of their creativity, courage, and unwavering commitment to doing things their way. This is why we love hosting Weddings-ish with Jove. Styles Familia brought heart, humor, innovation, and vulnerability into the studio, and reminded all of us that weddings can be as bold, intentional, and unforgettable as the people at the center of them.

This week in the Ask Jove Segment with Sloan Jove is asked about his advice on a mixed faith ceremony.
