Interior Design Color Trends 2023
Here at Jove Meyer, it is no secret we love color! So while this is nothing new in our world, bold, warm, and vibrant colors are all the rage in 2023. Interior Design color trends for 2023 point to people using colors in new and innovative ways to refresh and add joy to their homes. So no more holding back; we are talking maximalism! From wallpaper to the tiles of your bathroom, there is no place color doesn't belong, and there is no better way to lift your spirits than being surrounded by your favorite shades of color. We suggest fully leaning into one if you're afraid of using too many colors. So put your beige paint bucket away, and consider what colors make you smile.
Nothing encapsulates the spirit of colorful monochromatic-modern-maximalism more than our design of Norsdale Phoenicia. Each room immerses its guests in a single color, fully proving the power of color to move us. By using different materials in the same shade, the onlooker can genuinely appreciate the various textures within the space. Curious about the process of creating a colorful space of your own? We ask our lead interior designer Jove Meyer, to share some expert advice and insight into how he created the very colorful Norsdale Motel in Phoenicia NY!

What was the interior design process behind the Norsdale Motel?
Jove used his friend and business partner's profession in branding and marketing as a jumping-off point in selecting the colors of the famed rooms. The four ink colors in traditional printing are called CMYK, which stands for Cyan (blue), Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black). "Since we had four rooms, it felt like a fun way to play with color by assigning each room one color, floor to ceiling," Jove explains. The rooms are lettered "C, M, Y, K " from left to right to pay homage to the unique story and partnership behind the Norsdale.
Why do guests love each of the Norsdale rooms?
Guests gravitate towards different room colors for many reasons. The magenta room boasts ASL monochromatic wallpaper in soft pink tones, bringing a sense of calm and warmth to mind. The yellow room is perfect for guests looking to be cheered up because the bright tones of the yellow and the Van Gogh sunflower wallpaper evoke pure joy and happiness! The black + blue rooms tend to be favorites for guests looking to get a great night's rest because both of these colors can calm and relax the mind. They also have an other-worldly feeling to them. Think outer space! Everything from the light fixtures to the tiles in the bathrooms is thoughtfully designed to inspire guests to bring playful color into their lives. Not to mention every room is thoroughly instragramable!
What are some tips for designing a colorful and fabulous space?
We suggest having a base to design from. For instance, choose a wallpaper you love first, then select paint colors from there so they play well together. When selecting colors, Jove warns, "You don't need to be matchy-matchy all the time, you can find a color that contrasts, and it can work beautifully." We recommend getting samples of wallpaper and paint colors and throwing them up on the wall to see what you love most in the space. Jove urges, "Don't feel trapped into painting all walls the same color; play with different tones of the same colors or even contrast!"
What creative ways can people add color to their homes if they aren't ready for a more significant commitment?
"I love color in unexpected places like baseboards, where your eye normally skips over, but the color makes it a fun pop and special moment," Jove exclaims! Art is another fantastic way to add color to your home and an opportunity for your personality to come through. If you cannot commit to painting walls, throws and pillows are a great way to add pops of color to any space, and you can change them out seasonally.
What is our favorite trending color for interior design in 2023?
For 2023 we're all about lilac! We recommend using lilac in the bedroom because of its calming properties; we also love that it is a great way to introduce color into your home in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming. "It is a fabulous color, and it energizes and relaxes you simultaneously, which is why I love it so much," Jove explains. We can’t wait to see what dreamy lavender interiors he creates!
