A Bright and Modern Rainbow Room Wedding
The Venue: The Rainbow Room
Planning this bright and modern wedding at the iconic Rainbow Room was an absolute joy. Perched atop Rockefeller Center with sweeping views of Manhattan, the Rainbow Room provided the perfect blend of timeless New York glamour and our couple’s fresh, joyful style. Inspired by the “rainbow” in its name, we designed a celebration that honored LGBTQ+ love through bold color, thoughtful details, and a spirit of inclusivity. Rather than a literal rainbow, we used gradients, unexpected pairings, and dynamic floral and lighting elements to create a playful yet elevated atmosphere. Every detail—from the custom paper goods to the expressive palette—reflected our couple’s vibrant energy and authenticity, bringing modern love to life in one of the city’s most legendary spaces.
The Paper
The invitation suite was as joyful and personal as the celebration itself. The save the date and the invitation included a custom puzzle featuring a photo of the grooms getting engaged—an interactive and heartfelt touch that gave guests a glimpse into their love story before the big day. The invitation design beautifully blended sentiment and playfulness, showcasing the New York City skyline alongside a whimsical cartoon-style outline of the grooms mid-jump, capturing their excitement and energy. It was a perfect preview of the celebration to come: full of love, laughter, and personal touches at every turn.
To honor the iconic history of the Rainbow Room, we in partnership with 1440, incorporated an elegant Art Deco font throughout the paper goods, a subtle yet meaningful nod to the venue’s storied past. The sleek, geometric lettering paired beautifully with the modern, color-blocked palette, creating a bridge between old New York glamour and our couple’s fresh, contemporary vision. From the menus to the escort cards, this design choice added a layer of sophistication and timelessness, grounding the bold use of color in the venue’s classic aesthetic. It was the perfect way to pay homage to the space while making it uniquely their own.
The Ceremony
The ceremony design brought a fresh and playful twist to the evening, featuring lush tropical leaves, vibrant yellow and purple orchids, and an array of bold blooms that set a lively, celebratory tone. The colorful florals popped beautifully against the classic backdrop of the Rainbow Room, striking a perfect balance between modern fun and timeless elegance. The couple was married by a close friend, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the moment. Guests were seated in chic Art Deco-inspired silver chairs, which echoed the venue’s iconic design while adding a bit of sparkle and flair to the joyful setting.
Dinner
At the reception, each long rectangular table was designed with sculptural white bud vases housing vibrant, color-blocked floral arrangements in the couple’s favorite tones of turquoise, yellow, pink, and orange. The flowers were grouped by hue in sections, creating a stunning linear rainbow effect that felt both playful and artful. Lush tropical leaf installations climbed the walls, echoing the ceremony design and adding texture and dimension to the space. Sleek, modern wingback dining chairs in dark wood provided a stylish contrast to the bright florals, grounding the look with a touch of warmth and sophistication. The result was a reception that felt fresh, thoughtful, and reflective of the couple’s vibrant energy.
More Details
The wedding was filled with fun and unexpected details that made the celebration uniquely memorable. A stunning cake by Ron Ben Israel took center stage—modern and fun, with a sleek grey design accented by delicate, colorful flowers that brought a touch of whimsy while maintaining a classic elegance. Late into the night, guests were treated to a playful surprise: McDonald's served as a late-night snack, offering a lighthearted and nostalgic moment. The couple wowed guests with a choreographed dance, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Throughout the celebration, the iconic Rainbow Room ceiling lighting subtly shifted, sometimes glowing in a soft white and other times turning into a full spectrum of color, creating a dynamic atmosphere that perfectly mirrored the joyful energy of the couple and their love story.
